What is a “GEEK”

So as I was saying on the About page, I class my self as a geek, But other people don’t. Obviously everyone will have there own opinion. But what does the word “GEEK” actually mean. I’m I right, Or are they. Well here is what I think it means and what most people like me will think.

The term “geek” originally referred to the carnival performers whose act consisted of biting the heads off chickens and eating glass. Over time it came to be applied to anyone who does work considered odd or bizarre by mainstream society. The term now enjoys a special status within the technical community, particularly among particularly knowledgeable computer programmers. To identify oneself as a “geek” indicates a recognition that most people still consider programming computers to be a bizarre act, along with a certain fierce satisfaction in being very good at their inglorious profession. Unlike the word “nerd,” which is always pejorative, “geek” often carries a positive connotation when used by one of the group. The use of the term by outsiders is considered insulting. Not to be confused with Nerd. A geek does not have to be smart, a Geek is someone who is generally not athletic, and enjoys Video Games; Comic Books; being on the internet, and etc.

A geek is basically someone who spends alot of time and energy in a certain area. Unlike people I know where they think a geek is someone who knows everything, listens in class. Does all there work. BUT ITS NOT. You don’t have to know everything to be a “geek”.
